Where we work, from Malibu to Palos Verdes
Los Angeles County has 88 incorporated cities and 101 unincorporated areas, about 10 million people and 4,058 square miles of land. We work a slice of it, based in Santa Monica and organized in four groups. Each area name below links to its own page with local access notes, haulers and facilities.
- Westside: Santa Monica, Venice, Mar Vista, West Los Angeles, Culver City, Marina del Rey and Playa del Rey.
- Coast and canyons: Pacific Palisades, Topanga and Malibu.
- Hills: Brentwood, Beverly Hills and Bel Air.
- South Bay: El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance and Palos Verdes.
The ride from Santa Monica runs from 10 to 15 minutes for Venice, Brentwood and West LA to 45 to 55 minutes for Rancho Palos Verdes, by our off-peak estimates.
City of Los Angeles neighborhoods and the 311 pickup
Many of our neighborhood pages sit inside the City of Los Angeles: Venice, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Mar Vista, Bel Air, Playa del Rey, Westwood and Sawtelle. They share one program. LA Sanitation and Environment, or LASAN, gives residents free, unlimited curbside bulky pickup, scheduled through 311, MyLA311 or 1-800-773-2489, and collected on your regular trash day. Ask at least one business day ahead.
That program is a good one, and for a couch or two it's the right answer. The catch is the word curbside. Crews do not enter the property, so the items have to be out front before collection. It doesn't help with a garage that needs emptying, an apartment turnover with a deadline, construction debris, or anything that has to go today. LASAN also runs free monthly bulky-item drop-off events at its district yards, with 2026 Saturday dates that you should confirm. We handle the in-home removal, the debris and the short timeline.
Incorporated cities: each with its own hauler and cap
The cities are the part that trips people up. Each has its own contract, and the free allowance varies a lot. These are the allowances as published or reported for 2026.
| City | Free bulky allowance |
|---|---|
| Santa Monica | 3 pickups a year, up to 5 items each, then the city's hourly charge |
| Culver City | 2 a year single-family, 1 multifamily, up to 6 items |
| Torrance | 1 a year per address, up to 20 items |
| El Segundo | Up to 4 a year, up to 6 items (single-family and duplex) |
| Manhattan Beach | Up to 6 a year per the city newsletter |
| Malibu | One collection day a year, by appointment |
| Beverly Hills | On request, plus alley cleanups |
Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach and the Palos Verdes cities have their own haulers and rules, set out on their pages. The pattern: a cap, curbside only, and exclusions for construction material. We pick up what falls outside all three.
Unincorporated county pockets
Not every address with a Los Angeles mailing address belongs to a city. Marina del Rey, Topanga, Ladera Heights, Sunset Mesa and Del Aire are unincorporated, which means the County, not a city, sets the rules. Bulky pickup runs through a franchise hauler that you find with the County Public Works address lookup. In our research, the Marina del Rey and Topanga haulers weren't found, and the County says multifamily properties in unincorporated areas can get free bulky and e-waste collection subject to limits. If you live in one of these places and can't find your hauler, property management is the practical first call in Marina del Rey. Ladera Heights and View Park are served by Universal Waste Systems at (800) 631-7016.
That uncertainty is why unincorporated customers call us. Text the photos, and we handle the job without you having to work out who holds the franchise.
Where loads go across the service area
Where a load is tipped depends on where it started. Westside jobs usually go to Southern California Disposal and Recycling at 1908 Frank St in Santa Monica or the Culver City Transfer and Recycling Station at 9255 W Jefferson Blvd. South Bay jobs go to Republic Services and American Waste at 1449 W Rosecrans Ave in Gardena, Waste Resources Recovery at 357 W Compton Blvd, or the WM Carson Transfer Station. Malibu loads fall under the Calabasas Landfill wasteshed.
Household hazardous waste and e-waste have their own sites, such as the Hyperion and UCLA S.A.F.E. Centers. We don't take hazardous waste, and we point you to those programs.
How to tell which program applies to you
Three questions sort it out. First, is your address in the City of Los Angeles? If your trash is collected by the city, use 311 for curbside items. Second, is it an incorporated city? Check your city's page for the cap. Third, is it unincorporated? Use the County lookup. Then decide whether the free program covers the job. If the stuff is inside, large, urgent or construction-related, it doesn't. See how pricing works for how we quote by truck space, or go straight to contact.

Los Angeles questions
Which Los Angeles County areas does JunkIt LA serve?
We serve 19 areas across the Westside, the coast and canyons, the hills and the South Bay, from Malibu to the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Each has its own page linked above with local access notes.
Does the City of Los Angeles pick up bulky items for free?
Yes. LASAN offers free, unlimited curbside bulky pickup through 311 for City of Los Angeles residents, collected on trash day. Crews don't enter the property, so we handle in-home removal, construction debris and same-day jobs.
Why does the free pickup limit change from city to city?
Each incorporated city contracts its own hauler and sets its own allowance. Santa Monica allows 3 a year, Culver City 2, Torrance 1 and El Segundo up to 4. We cover what is beyond each cap.
How do I find my hauler in an unincorporated area?
Use the LA County Public Works address lookup. In our research the Marina del Rey and Topanga haulers weren't found, so call the county or property management, or text us photos and skip the search.
Do you serve all of Los Angeles County?
No. We serve the Westside, coast, hills and South Bay areas listed on this page. Text photos and your address to (310) 905-5138 and we will say whether we can reach you.
Where does my junk go after the pickup?
Westside loads go to Frank Street in Santa Monica or Jefferson Boulevard in Culver City, South Bay loads to Rosecrans Avenue in Gardena or the Carson station, and Malibu loads fall under the Calabasas Landfill wasteshed.
