What we pick up most in Mar Vista

Venice Boulevard splits the neighborhood in two, and our work follows the line. North of it, the 1950s-to-70s single-family blocks around Beethoven, Meier and Moore streets are where mid-century homes get stripped for a remodel, a back-lot ADU goes up, or a lot is cleared for a teardown. Those calls are debris removal: old lath, cabinets, a tiled bathroom in pieces, the remains of a fence, plus the garage full of whatever the previous owner left behind.

South of Venice, and all through Palms along Motor and National, the housing is dingbats and walk-ups, much of it rent-stabilized. Palms is roughly 92 percent renters and packs about 27,800 people into each square mile, which makes it the busiest turnover corridor on the Westside. Those calls are a couch, a bed frame, a sagging particleboard dresser and the boxes a tenant ran out of time to deal with. Del Rey adds condo turnovers near Glencoe and Maxella and the occasional shop cleanout from the light-industrial strip behind them.

Getting the truck in

North of Venice is the easy half. Driveways fit the truck, and most jobs stage from the drive or the curb in front. Send us a photo of the approach so we know whether a parked car, a low tree or a construction fence will push us onto the street. Grand View and Centinela move fast during the day; we try to park on the side street and carry rather than block a lane.

Palms and the dingbat blocks are the carry jobs. These buildings were built with a carport underneath and a stairway up, no elevator and no loading zone, and the front curb is usually full. We plan on a stair carry from the second or third floor and price it from the photos, so the number Miles texts back already includes the walk. If your building has a gate code or a tight rear alley off National, tell us before the window so the crew doesn't lose twenty minutes finding the way in. On the Del Rey industrial strip we use the dock when there is one.

LASAN's free bulky-item pickup vs. hiring us

Mar Vista, Palms and Del Rey are City of Los Angeles, so residents get LA Sanitation and Environment's curbside bulky-item pickup at no charge and with no annual cap. You request it through 311, MyLA311 or (800) 773-2489 at least one business day ahead, put the items at the curb, and they go on your regular trash day. For an old mattress, a couch or a broken bookcase with a week to spare, that is the right call and we'll tell you so.

Where it falls short is the stuff Mar Vista actually generates. City crews collect from the curb, not from a second-floor unit or the back of a garage. The city's bulky-item program is for household items, not remodel and construction debris, so the drywall and framing from an ADU build need a hauler. And a landlord with a new tenant moving in Saturday can't wait for Tuesday's trash day. That's where we come in: a photo, a clear price, and usually a same-day window if you text before noon. Our pricing page explains how the truck-space quote works.

Where Mar Vista junk ends up

Mar Vista has the shortest dump run on our map. Culver City Transfer and Recycling Station at 9255 West Jefferson Boulevard borders Del Rey, so a load from Palms or the Beethoven blocks is on the scale within minutes and we can run back for a second pickup the same morning. Southern California Disposal on Frank Street in Santa Monica is the backup when Jefferson is backed up.

Before anything hits the transfer station, we sort. Appliance and bed-frame steel goes to scrap, and mattresses, computers and TVs each get their own recycling route before anything is tipped. Clean concrete and wood from teardowns are separated for recycling where the facility accepts them. What we won't carry is household hazardous waste: paint, solvents, pool chemicals and the like go to LASAN's S.A.F.E. Center at Hyperion in Playa del Rey, open Saturday and Sunday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. If it still has life, it goes to charity, not the landfill.

Seasons in Mar Vista

Palms runs on the academic calendar as much as the lease calendar. Late August and the end of every month bring a wave of move-outs, and we see curbside furniture piles along Motor and National that someone hoped the city would take. Spring and early summer are remodel season north of Venice, when ADU permits that cleared over winter turn into loads of lath, cabinets and old fence boards.

Winter is storm season. NOAA's October 15, 2026 outlook favors a wetter-than-average December through February across Southern California, and the state and county have each proclaimed emergencies to prepare. Mar Vista is flat and sits well away from any burn scar, so the storm work here is ordinary: a fence that came down, a soaked garage, yard debris after a windy week. Clear the garage before the rain rather than after it. The storm debris page covers what we haul and what the county expects of property owners.

A typical Mar Vista call

This is the kind of job we'll feature here once the photos are in, not a testimonial. A property manager texts on a Thursday with pictures of a two-bedroom on the second floor of a dingbat off Venice near Grand View: a sectional, two mattresses, a dining set, a dead mini-fridge and about fifteen bags. Miles replies with a price for roughly half a truck, including the stair carry. Friday at 8 a.m. two of us park on the side street, hand-carry everything down, set the sectional and dining set aside for Goodwill, and are on the scale at Jefferson by 10. A north-of-Venice version is the same shape with cabinets and drywall instead of furniture, and we cover that on our garage cleanout and furniture removal pages.

Mar Vista questions

Do you do same-day junk removal in Mar Vista and Palms?

Usually, yes. Mar Vista is a short run from our Santa Monica yard, so a text with photos before noon can often get a window the same afternoon anywhere in 90066 or 90034. Afternoon texts are normally scheduled for the next morning.

Isn't LA City bulky-item pickup free in Mar Vista?

It is. LASAN picks up bulky household items from the curb at no charge, requested through 311 or MyLA311 at least one business day ahead and collected on your regular trash day. Use it for a couch or a mattress when you have the time. Hire us when the items are upstairs, in a garage, mixed with construction debris, or need to be gone before the next trash day.

Can you haul ADU and teardown debris from a lot north of Venice Boulevard?

Yes. Drywall, framing, cabinets, tile, fencing and old flooring from remodels on the Beethoven, Meier and Moore blocks are a regular job for us, and Culver City's transfer station on Jefferson is close enough that we can do several loads in a day. We don't do demolition itself and we don't take asbestos or other hazardous material.

My Palms apartment has no elevator. Is the stair carry extra?

The carry is built into the price you get from the photos, so there is no surprise on the day. Tell us the floor and whether there is a rear entrance off the alley, and we'll send enough people to do it in one trip.

Where does junk from Mar Vista actually go?

Most loads are on the scale at the Culver City Transfer and Recycling Station, 9255 West Jefferson Boulevard, within minutes. Before that, a sound dresser or dining set from a Palms turnover goes to Goodwill Southern California or The Salvation Army, and mattresses, metal and electronics are pulled into their own recycling streams.

Do you serve Del Rey and Mar Vista Gardens?

We do. Del Rey, including the Glencoe and Maxella condo and industrial area and the streets around Mar Vista Gardens, is part of our Mar Vista coverage. The transfer station is next door, so these are some of our quickest turnarounds.
