What we pick up most in West Los Angeles
West LA is really five neighborhoods wearing one name, and each sends us a different kind of pile. East of the 405, half the housing is rental, and the apartment buildings along Santa Monica, Olympic and Pico boulevards turn over constantly. That means mattresses, box springs, futons, broken-down shelving and the odd mini fridge left on a balcony. Add the teardowns: third-party sources say older homes in 90025 are knocked down and rebuilt more often than anywhere else in the city, and the leftover drywall, lath, cabinets and tile from those remodels is a steady part of our week.
Westwood sends us UCLA student housing move-outs and Wilshire Corridor condo cleanouts, which are two different jobs. One is six futons and a desk from a shared apartment near Gayley Ave. The other is a 2,000-square-foot unit on the fourteenth floor with a sectional, a dining set and a lifetime of books. Century City is almost all commercial: office tenant-improvement debris, cubicle liquidations and retail fixtures from the towers along Avenue of the Stars and Constellation Blvd. Cheviot Hills and Rancho Park are 1920s single-family streets west of Motor Ave where owners have stayed for decades, so we get estate cleanouts, garage cleanouts and whole-house remodel waste from Spanish bungalows that have been expanded three times. Sawtelle Japantown rounds it out with restaurant fixture pulls when a space changes hands.
Getting the truck in
Access is the thing that changes most block to block here, and it is why the photo matters. On the Sawtelle and Olympic apartment blocks, the alleys are narrow and the parking behind the buildings is spoken for, so we usually stage on the side street and carry out through the lobby or the gate. Tell us the gate code and which side the trash room is on, and we'll keep the truck out of the red zone.
The Wilshire Corridor and Century City are a different procedure. Those towers need a loading-dock reservation, a freight elevator booking and, almost always, a certificate of insurance naming the building before anyone wheels a dolly through. We carry general liability and commercial auto, and we send the COI to your property manager ahead of the window. Build in a day or two for the building to approve it; the dock scheduler is the real bottleneck, not us.
Cheviot Hills, Monte Mar Vista and Rancho Park are driveway jobs. The truck fits, the pile is usually in the garage or side yard, and the only things to flag are a low tree canopy, a gated driveway or a street-sweeping day. California Country Club Estates is an HOA, so if you are there, ask whether the association wants notice before a truck parks on the street for an hour.
LASAN's free bulky pickup vs. hiring us
Every neighborhood on this page is in the City of Los Angeles, which means you have one of the most generous bulky-item programs in the county. LA Sanitation and Environment picks up bulky items from residents at no charge, with no yearly cap, as long as you schedule it through 311 or MyLA311 at least one business day ahead and set the items out on your regular trash day. For a single couch or a mattress you can get to the curb yourself, that program is the right call, and we'll tell you so when you text.
The program has edges. LASAN collects on your trash day, not today, and it collects from the curb, not from a fourth-floor walk-up or a Century City dock. It does not take construction and remodel debris, which rules out most 90025 teardown piles. It is a residential program, so office cleanouts, restaurant fixtures and retail buildouts are outside it. And a Wilshire Corridor building will not let you line up a dining set on the sidewalk and wait a week. When the job is bigger than a few items, has to be gone by a lease deadline, involves a commercial space or needs carrying, that is us. We also handle the sorting that the city truck doesn't, pulling donatable pieces before anything heads to a transfer station. Our pricing page explains how the photo turns into a price.
Where West LA junk ends up
Routing depends on which end of West LA we are leaving from. Sawtelle, Westwood and anything near the 405 goes back toward our base and into Southern California Disposal & Recycling at 1908 Frank St in Santa Monica, the closest transfer station to the yard. Century City, Cheviot Hills and Rancho Park loads often make more sense heading south to the Culver City Transfer & Recycling Station on Jefferson Blvd, which the city runs six days a week. Metal from appliances and office furniture frames gets separated for scrap. Televisions, monitors and small electronics from a cleanout ride with us to a proper e-waste channel rather than a landfill. If you want to drop household hazardous waste yourself, the West LA S.A.F.E. Center sits right on the UCLA campus at 550 Charles E. Young Dr W; the last published schedule we found lists Saturdays, so check LASAN's page before you drive over. LASAN also runs free monthly bulky-item drop-off events out of its West LA District Yard for furniture, carpet and wood, which is handy if you own a pickup and have a Saturday. If it still has life, it goes to charity, not the landfill.
Seasons in West Los Angeles
Two dates drive our West LA calendar: mid-June, when UCLA spring quarter ends, and the second half of September, when leases flip before fall. Westwood apartment managers book turnover cleanouts weeks ahead for those windows, and the earliest same-day slots go fast. If you manage units near campus, text us the week before finals and we'll hold a block.
Remodel debris in 90025 and Cheviot Hills runs year-round but spikes in late winter and spring, when permits pulled in the fall turn into tear-outs. Century City office cleanouts follow lease cycles, with a bump at year end as tenants vacate before January rent. The rainy months matter too: this winter we are preparing for elevated odds of a wet season on the Westside, and the first storms tend to pull down fences, soak garage contents and send homeowners looking for someone to clear a side yard. Our storm debris page covers what we take when that happens and what stays with the city.
A typical West LA call
The kind of job we'll feature here, not a testimonial. A property manager for a twelve-unit building on Butler Ave, a few doors from the West LA police station, texts photos of three vacated units: two queen mattresses and box springs, a particle-board dresser that has given up, a broken patio set and a dozen bags of what the last tenants didn't want to move. Miles prices it from the photos within the hour. We arrive at 7:30 the next morning, before the street fills up, load from the alley gate, pull the one solid wood nightstand aside for Goodwill, and are gone by nine.

West Los Angeles questions
Do you offer same-day junk removal in West Los Angeles?
Usually, yes. Sawtelle, Westwood and Century City are about twelve minutes from our Santa Monica yard off-peak, so a photo texted before noon can often be hauled the same afternoon. The exceptions are high-rise buildings on the Wilshire Corridor or Avenue of the Stars, where the loading dock and certificate of insurance approval set the timeline, not our truck.
Does West LA get free bulky-item pickup from the city?
Yes. 90025, 90024, 90067 and 90064 are all City of Los Angeles, so residents get LASAN's free, unlimited curbside bulky pickup: book through 311 or MyLA311 a business day ahead for your regular trash day. Remodel debris, commercial waste and carries out of a building fall outside it, and that is our work.
Can you clear a condo on the Wilshire Corridor or in Century City?
Yes, and we do it often. Those towers require a dock reservation, a freight elevator booking and a certificate of insurance naming the building. We carry general liability and commercial auto coverage and send the COI to your manager before the window. Allow a day or two for the building to approve it.
Do you handle UCLA move-outs in Westwood?
We do, and June and September are our busiest weeks near campus. We take mattresses, futons, desks and whatever a shared apartment on Gayley or Landfair leaves behind. Property managers who text us the week before finals get first pick of the early windows.
Can you take remodel debris from a teardown in 90025?
Yes. Drywall, lath, cabinets, tile, flooring and lumber from a residential remodel are the core of our West LA debris work, and the city's bulky program won't take any of it. We do not do demolition, dumpster rental or hazardous materials like asbestos, so a pre-1980 house should have an abatement report before we load.
Where can I drop off paint or old electronics in West LA?
The West LA S.A.F.E. Center at UCLA, 550 Charles E. Young Dr W, accepts household hazardous waste and e-waste from LA City residents. The schedule we found lists Saturdays, so confirm on LASAN's site first. We don't haul paint, solvents or chemicals, but we will take TVs, monitors and small electronics as part of a cleanout and route them to an e-waste channel.
Do you do office cleanouts in Century City?
Yes. Tenant-improvement debris, cubicle systems, desks, chairs and retail fixtures from the towers on Avenue of the Stars and Constellation Blvd are regular jobs for us. Dock scheduling and COI paperwork are part of the plan, and usable office furniture goes to donation when a charity will take it. See our commercial junk removal page for how we quote larger spaces.
