What we pick up most in Marina del Rey, Playa Vista and Westchester
Marina del Rey is mostly high-rise condo and apartment towers on county leasehold land, plus hotels and about 5,000 boat slips. Large managed apartment communities have constant turnover, so a lot of our calls are unit move-outs along Admiralty Way and Via Marina: a sofa, a mattress, a dresser and boxes. Then there are the marine items that do not fit the usual list: worn dock lines, broken dock boxes, old fenders and the deck furniture that has spent years in salt air.
Playa Vista is a different job. It is a master-planned HOA community of condos, townhomes and apartments, and the Silicon Beach campuses nearby (Google, EA, Belkin, Facebook LA, YouTube Space) mean office furniture liquidations. Westchester is postwar single-family tracts in Kentwood and Loyola Village, often ranch houses expanded to two stories, so we get long-tenured-owner estate cleanouts, LMU student move-outs and hotel or office cleanouts near LAX. For tower furniture jobs, see furniture removal in Marina del Rey.
Getting the truck in
Marina del Rey's towers are the hardest part, and most of the work is paperwork before the truck arrives.
- Towers on Admiralty Way and Via Marina: expect loading-dock scheduling, elevator pads and often a certificate of insurance. Tell us the property manager's contact and we will request the dock window and send the COI.
- Playa Vista: HOAs restrict curb staging and the buildings use parking structures. We stage inside the structure with the association's approval, and keep the truck out of fire lanes.
- Westchester: driveway single-family homes. This is the easy case, with a straightforward carry from garage to truck.
For boat gear, tell us whether the items sit on a dock, in a slip locker or on land. A long carry along a dock is still just a carry, but we need to know before the quote.
Who picks up bulky items here, and when to hire us
This is where Marina del Rey gets confusing. The community is unincorporated Los Angeles County, on land the county leases out, and our research did not find a published residential hauler or free bulky-item allowance for it. We would rather tell you that than guess. LA County Public Works directs unincorporated residents to an address lookup on pw.lacounty.gov to find their hauler, and the county says multifamily properties in unincorporated areas can get free bulky and e-waste collection subject to limits. For most Marina residents, who live in managed apartment communities, property management is the practical contact.
Playa Vista and Westchester are different: they are in the City of Los Angeles, and LASAN offers free, unlimited curbside bulky pickup on trash day, scheduled through 311. That is the right call for a couch you can set on the curb. We come in when the item cannot sit at the curb (a tower unit on the 14th floor), when the schedule will not wait, or when the load is construction material, a whole apartment or an office.
Where Marina del Rey junk ends up
The Culver City Transfer and Recycling Station at 9255 W Jefferson Boulevard is our nearest transfer station for this side of the Westside. Sorting happens first. Metal, mattresses and electronics head to their own recyclers.
Household hazardous waste and e-waste are a separate path. The Hyperion S.A.F.E. Center at 7660 W Imperial Highway, Gate B, accepts them, and the county runs periodic hazardous waste and e-waste events at the Dock 52 parking lot on Fiji Way. We do not haul paint, solvents, fuel, propane or other hazardous materials, including marine items such as flares or old fuel, so bring those to one of those two options.
Seasons in the Marina
Tower turnover follows the calendar, with peaks at the end of each month and a rush when leases end in summer. LMU brings student move-outs to Westchester. NOAA's outlook leans wetter than average for December through February, and the state (September 21) and county (September 23) proclaimed emergencies to prepare. A wet winter near the harbor can mean waterlogged dock boxes and drifting debris. The county puts debris on private property on the owner, which for a slip locker or a private patio means you, or us if you text a photo.
A typical Marina del Rey call
A property manager on Admiralty Way texts photos of a two-bedroom: a sectional, a bed frame, a patio set and a closet of boxes. Miles quotes by truck space. We request the dock window and COI, arrive with floor protection, pad the elevator, carry everything down, and send photos of the emptied unit. This is a placeholder description of a typical call; we will swap in a real job when we have one.
