What we pick up most in Topanga
Topanga is canyon country: about 19 square miles of hillside homes, and roughly three in four are owner-occupied. People live here a long time and keep what they have. Our calls reflect that. A cabin's worth of furniture after a family member passes, a shed that has been filling since the 1990s, a barn or studio loft with old equipment, a pile of cut brush that has outgrown the chipper.
The Palisades Fire hit the lower canyon hard, destroying most homes near Topanga State Beach and damaging the Topanga Ranch Motel and Topanga State Park. We do not handle hazardous ash or burned-structure debris, which government programs took on. What we do see in the burn-affected areas is post-cleanup rebuild waste, contractor offcuts and household contents that need to leave. At Sunset Mesa on the Malibu edge, crews broke ground on 21 new homes in 2026, and construction waste follows.
Getting the truck in
This is the part of the job we plan most carefully. Old Topanga Canyon Road and the side roads off Topanga Canyon Boulevard are narrow, steep and winding, and many hillside lots have no turnaround. A full-size truck cannot reach every house. We choose the right truck from your photos, stage at the closest wide pullout and hand-carry down the driveway. Tell us how long the driveway is and whether the road is paved.
The route in matters too. We reach the village via PCH and Topanga Canyon Boulevard (SR-27), and the PCH approach runs through the burn zone at reduced speed. Add that to the 25 to 30 minutes of travel and a Topanga call is often better booked for a defined morning window. Send photos of the driveway, the gate and the pile, and we will plan a single trip.
Topanga's pickup options vs. hiring us
Topanga is unincorporated Los Angeles County, so there is no city bulky-item program here. Residents schedule bulky pickup through their franchise hauler, which you find with the Los Angeles County Public Works address lookup. Our research did not turn up the hauler or its allowance for Topanga, so call the County or check the lookup before you plan around a free pickup. The County says multifamily properties in unincorporated areas can get free bulky and e-waste collection, subject to limits.
For a canyon cabin or a studio full of tools, a curbside program is a poor fit anyway, since there often is no curb. A crew that goes into the building, carries it out and removes it the same day is the practical answer. We also take loads with building materials, which standard bulky pickups commonly exclude.
Where Topanga junk ends up
Loads go to Southern California Disposal & Recycling at 1908 Frank Street in Santa Monica. The Calabasas Landfill wasteshed covers certain unincorporated areas, but we have not confirmed that Topanga qualifies, so we route to Frank Street unless told otherwise. Metal, mattresses and electronics are sent to recyclers.
We do not haul household hazardous waste: paint, solvents, fuel, propane or chemicals. Those need a county hazardous waste collection site.
Seasons in Topanga
Fire season and rain season both shape the calendar. Brush clearance is a spring and early summer job on every canyon lot, and defensible-space work leaves piles of cut limbs and dead growth. Fall brings the slope question. NOAA's winter outlook leans wetter than average from December through February, its Climate Prediction Center has an El Niño Advisory in effect, and the National Weather Service says burn scars stay at elevated debris-flow risk for at least two years after a fire. For a canyon that burned in January 2025, that is the highest-risk winter so far.
Forecasts shift odds; they do not guarantee rain. The canyon has felt storms before: in February 2026, Topanga Canyon Boulevard was closed between PCH and Grand View Drive because of mud and debris flows. The county puts debris on private property on the owner, and its public works crews work on public roads. Free sandbags are available at county fire stations, up to 25 ready-to-fill bags per household. If you want slopes, drains or yards cleared of loose debris before the season, or a storm leaves mud-soaked contents on your lot, text us a photo.
A typical Topanga call
This studio cleanout is a sketch of the calls we expect, not a customer story. A homeowner off Old Topanga Canyon Road is clearing a detached studio before listing the property. She texts photos of the building, the dirt driveway and a stack of old amplifiers, chairs and boxes. Miles asks about the road width, picks a smaller truck and offers a morning window and a price. The crew carries the load up the driveway, donates what is usable and sweeps the floor.

Topanga questions
Do you serve all of Topanga 90290, including Old Topanga Canyon?
Yes. We cover Topanga Canyon, Old Topanga Canyon and Sunset Mesa. Send photos of the road, the driveway and the pile so we can plan the truck and the carry.
Is there a free bulky-item program in Topanga?
Topanga is unincorporated Los Angeles County, with no city program. Residents use a franchise hauler found through the County Public Works address lookup, and we did not confirm the hauler or limits. For anything past those limits, we can quote it.
Can you reach a house with a long, narrow driveway in Topanga?
Usually. We pick a truck that fits the road, stage at the nearest wide spot and hand-carry from the house. If a hillside lot has no turnaround, tell us when you text.
How long does it take to get to Topanga from Santa Monica?
About 28 minutes via PCH and Topanga Canyon Boulevard, so we book defined windows rather than same-hour arrivals. Texts sent before noon can sometimes get a same-day slot.
Do you clear brush and yard debris in Topanga?
Yes. We haul cut brush, dead limbs and green waste from canyon lots. Piles from defensible-space work are common, and we price by the truck space they fill.
Do you handle cabin and outbuilding cleanouts in Topanga?
Yes. We empty cabins, sheds, studios and barns of furniture, equipment and clutter, donate usable items to Goodwill Southern California or The Salvation Army and recycle metal and electronics.
Do you take fire ash from the Topanga burn area?
No. Government programs handled hazardous ash and burned-structure debris. We haul rebuild-phase waste, storm debris and household junk from affected homes after cleanup.
Who is responsible for storm debris on a Topanga property?
The county states that removing debris from private property is the owner's responsibility, while clearing public roads is a County Public Works matter. We can haul non-hazardous mud-soaked contents, branches and loose debris from your lot.
