Junk Hauling & Haul-Away Service Los Angeles

We haul away the mixed pile: the boxes, bags, cracked patio set, rolled-up carpet and garage overflow that never fit one category. We cover the Westside, the coast and the South Bay from Malibu to Palos Verdes, usually the same day you text photos. The price comes from the truck space the pile fills, not from weight or hours.

What we take

  • Furniture and mattresses
  • Boxes, bags and loose household junk
  • Appliances and electronics
  • Yard trimmings and fencing
  • Remodel leftovers
  • Exercise equipment, grills, patio sets
  • Carpet, rugs and flooring
  • Pianos, safes and other awkward heavy items

What we don't

  • Paint, solvents, chemicals and anything hazardous
  • Asbestos and fire ash
  • Propane tanks and fuel
  • Medical or biohazard waste

What junk hauling looks like on the Westside

A junk pickup is rarely one thing. From the dingbat apartments of Mar Vista and Venice and the courtyard buildings in Santa Monica's Pico and Ocean Park neighborhoods, the typical text is a photo of a corner: eight moving boxes that never got unpacked, a wobbling particleboard shelf, a bike with a bent rim, two trash bags the donation bin wouldn't accept, a dead microwave, and a rug rolled around a floor lamp. In Marina del Rey and along the Wilshire Corridor it's the storage cage in the garage, emptied in one go before a lease ends. Palms and Sawtelle send us the leftovers after roommates split up and nobody claims the futon.

Houses send bigger piles with heavier things in them. Brentwood, Cheviot Hills and the driveway streets of Torrance and Redondo Beach call about the garage that stopped being a garage: a treadmill from 2014, a rusted kettle grill, a patio set with one chair missing, carpet and padding from a flooring job, and the half-bags of tile from a bathroom remodel. Manhattan Beach and Hermosa Beach rental owners turn over units between summer tenants. Pacific Palisades households in the rebuild phase have pallets, packaging and temporary fencing to clear; the hazardous ash and burned-structure debris were handled by the government cleanup programs, and we only haul what came after.

How a junk pickup works

Text a wide photo of the pile to (310) 905-5138, plus a close-up of anything heavy or odd, your address, the floor, and where a truck can legally stand. Miles replies with a single price for the truck space the pile will take, carry and disposal included. If that works, you get a two-hour window; texts before noon usually get a same-day slot, and we run Sunday too.

Two people arrive with dollies, straps, contractor bags and bins. Pianos, safes, treadmills and anything over about 300 pounds get a third person and a stair-climbing dolly, which we plan for when we see the photo. You don't need to bag, box or sort anything. If a few things in the pile are staying, put a strip of painter's tape on them or set them against a different wall and tell us. Unplug any electronics you're sending with us; we'll pull the batteries, cap loose cords and bundle hardware. We sort as we load, so donations ride in one zone of the truck, metal in another, electronics and mattresses separately, and the true trash last. A quarter load is usually out in 20 to 30 minutes. A garage takes an hour or two. We sweep the spot before we leave and text you a photo of it.

Load sizes for junk hauling

LoadWhat a mixed junk load usually is
Small loadA pickup-bed's worth: ten boxes and bags, or a grill plus a couple of broken chairs
Quarter truckA studio's leftovers after the movers, or one wall of a two-car garage
Half truckA one-bedroom move-out with the furniture, boxes and kitchen odds and ends together
Three-quarter truckA full two-car garage, or the back house a relative lived in for a decade
Full truckA whole-house clearout, a storage unit plus an apartment, or two rental turnovers back to back

Space is the measure because mixed junk is mostly air: boxes, foam, bags and furniture that won't stack. The exception is dense material. Tile, concrete, dirt, plaster and roofing fill a small volume but max out the truck's weight, so we price those as debris removal and say so in the quote. If your pile is half junk and half remodel rubble, send both photos and we'll quote it as one job.

Where the junk goes

We sort every load into five streams, and the sorting happens on your driveway, not at the dump. Anything still usable in the mixed pile, the bookshelf with all its shelves or the box of working kitchenware, gets pulled out during loading and goes to Goodwill Southern California or The Salvation Army. Metal goes to a scrap yard: grills, treadmill frames, bed rails, filing cabinets, the safe. Televisions, printers, monitors and small electronics go to an e-waste recycler, never into the landfill stream. Mattresses and box springs go into California's statewide mattress recycling program. Yard trimmings ride in the green-waste lane at the transfer station.

What's left, which is the boxes, broken particleboard, carpet and padding, bagged household trash and damaged upholstery, goes to a licensed transfer station chosen by where the job is. Westside loads unload at Southern California Disposal and Recycling at 1908 Frank Street in Santa Monica. Culver City, Mar Vista and Beverlywood loads go to the Culver City Transfer and Recycling Station at 9255 West Jefferson Boulevard. South Bay loads go to the American Waste transfer station on West Rosecrans Avenue in Gardena or the WM station on West Francisco Street in Carson, whichever is on the route.

We don't take paint, solvents, pool chemicals, propane, fuel or fire ash. City of Los Angeles residents can drop those at the Hyperion S.A.F.E. Center on West Imperial Highway in Playa del Rey or the West LA S.A.F.E. Center at UCLA on Charles E. Young Drive; incorporated cities each have their own household hazardous waste program, and we'll point you to it when we quote.

Access situations we plan for

  • Walk streets and canals: Venice's canal lots, Manhattan Beach's Sand Section and Hermosa's walk streets have no curb at the door. We stage the truck at the closest legal spot and carry on dollies; send a photo of the route and the carry is in the price.
  • Alley-only lots: Ocean Park, Mid-City Santa Monica and much of Venice load from the alley. If the alley is too tight for the truck, we carry to the street.
  • Towers and docks: Marina del Rey, Playa Vista, Century City and the Wilshire Corridor want a dock reservation, elevator pads and a certificate of insurance on file. We email the COI to management the day before and book inside the dock hours.
  • Hillside: Palisades Highlands, Castellammare, Topanga, the Hollywood Riviera and the Palos Verdes Peninsula have driveways the truck can't turn in. We park below and bring the junk down in trips.
  • Gates and HOAs: Malibu Colony, Trousdale and gated Highlands streets need a code or a call-box name. Beverlywood and North Redondo townhome associations restrict curb staging, so we load straight from the garage with nothing left outside.
  • Parking structures: Fox Hills condos in Culver City and many Westwood buildings mean a low-clearance garage. We bring the smaller truck or hand-carry to the ramp.
  • Burn-zone streets: PCH through Malibu is posted at 25 mph in the fire area and Palisades streets carry K-rail and construction traffic, so rebuild-phase pickups get a wider window and an early start.
  • Commercial campuses: El Segundo offices east of Sepulveda have security check-in at the dock; give us the contact name and we handle it on arrival. Larger jobs belong on our commercial page.

When the city program covers it, and when it doesn't

If your address is in the City of Los Angeles, which includes Venice, Mar Vista, Palms, West LA, Westwood, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades, Westchester and Playa del Rey, LA Sanitation and Environment collects bulky items at the curb for free. You request it through 311 or MyLA311 at least one business day ahead, set the items out on your regular trash day, and it goes. For a few large items with a curb and a few days to spare, that is the right answer and we'll tell you so.

It covers less than people expect for a mixed pile. Bulky pickup is for individual large items; loose boxes, bagged trash, scattered small junk, construction leftovers and anything inside the garage or up the stairs are not on the list. The incorporated cities add caps:

City (as of 2026)Free bulky programWhere it stops
Santa Monica3 pickups a year, up to 5 items each$429.55 per hour with a 1-hour minimum beyond that (effective July 1, 2026); crews don't enter private property; 7 to 10 day wait
Culver City2 a year for single-family, 1 for multifamily, up to 6 itemsExtra pickups billed at the city's refuse rates; curb by 6 a.m.
Manhattan BeachUp to 6 pickups a year through WMThird-party listings cap items at about 150 lb and 3 per visit
El SegundoUp to 6 items, 4 times a year, through EDCOBuildings of 3 or more units must use the building's hauler
Torrance1 Large Item Pick Up a year, up to 20 itemsNo construction debris, nothing two people can't lift, nothing on private property
Beverly HillsOn request, 1 to 3 business daysConstruction materials not accepted
Malibu1 collection day a year through the franchise haulerMust be booked by noon the Friday before with an itemized list
Rancho Palos Verdes3 pickups a year, up to 4 itemsPalos Verdes Estates has one annual curbside event only

Where every one of those programs stops is where a text to us starts: the pile is more than the cap, it isn't at the curb, it includes loose or small stuff, or the date can't wait. We don't compete with the free pickup for a single couch. We take the jobs it was never designed for.

Timing: move-outs, garage season and storm season

Junk hauling peaks on the last three days of every month, and twice a year around UCLA in late June and mid-September when Westwood, Sawtelle and Palms turn over at once. If you have a fixed move-out or a walk-through, text a week ahead and we hold the window. January brings the post-holiday purge, and April through June is garage season across the South Bay.

This winter has a different shape. NOAA's Climate Prediction Center has an El Niño Advisory in effect, and its October 15, 2026 outlook favors wetter-than-average conditions across Southern California from December through February. That is a forecast with elevated odds, not a promise of rain. Los Angeles County states that debris on private property is the owner's responsibility to remove, so the easy version of the job is clearing the yard and the garage before the first storm. If branches, fence panels or soaked carpet do land on your lot, send a photo; the full rundown is on our storm and fire debris page.

Junk Removal questions

Is junk hauling the same as junk removal?

For us, yes. Junk hauling, junk pickup, haul-away and trash removal all mean the same job: we come with a truck and a two-person crew, load whatever you point at, and route it to donation, recycling or a transfer station. The only things we split out are dense remodel rubble, which is priced as debris removal, and hazardous materials, which we don't take.

How fast can you haul junk away in Los Angeles?

Text photos before noon and a same-day window is usually available anywhere from Malibu to Palos Verdes. Afternoon texts typically land the next morning. We work Monday through Saturday from around the clock and Sunday from around the clock

Do I have to bag or sort anything before the crew arrives?

No. We bring the bags and bins and sort as we load. The one thing that helps is marking what stays with painter's tape or moving it to a different spot so nothing you wanted ends up on the truck.

What won't you haul?

Paint, solvents, chemicals, fuel, propane tanks, asbestos, fire ash and medical waste. We also don't rent dumpsters, do demolition or handle heavy-equipment mud removal.

Can you take a piano or a safe?

Yes. Send a photo and the floor it's on. We add a third person and a stair dolly, and route a playable piano to a donation partner when one will accept it. Both are priced by the truck space they take plus the extra crew.

Do you haul bagged household trash and loose boxes?

Yes, and that is most of what a mixed junk load is. City bulky-item programs are built for large single items; loose boxes, bags and the small stuff are exactly what they leave behind and what we fill a truck with.

Why not just use LA's free 311 bulky-item pickup?

If you have a curb, a few large items and a few days, you should. LASAN's pickup is free, scheduled through 311 at least a business day ahead, and collected on trash day. It stops working when the junk is loose, inside, upstairs, past the item cap in an incorporated city, or needed gone today.

Do you haul junk from businesses and storage units?

Yes. Storage units in Culver City and Torrance, retail back rooms on Main Street and offices in El Segundo all work the same way: photos, one price, a window. Larger clearouts with loading docks and security check-in are covered on our commercial junk removal page.
