What we pick up most in Beverly Hills

Beverly Hills splits along Wilshire. North of it, the lots are larger and the jobs are whole-house: Trousdale Estates covers about 410 acres where the average sale tops $10 million, and an estate there turns over through probate, a sale or a rebuild. We clear the furniture, the garage, the guest house and the storage rooms, and we sort what is worth donating from what is not. South of Wilshire the city looks different, with smaller lots and most of its apartment buildings. About 58 percent of the roughly 16,200 housing units are rented, so unit turnovers are a steady second line of work.

The Golden Triangle, bounded by Santa Monica Blvd, Wilshire and Crescent, brings retail and office cleanouts: a boutique closing out fixtures, or a suite emptied before a new tenant. Rodeo Drive and the La Cienega restaurant row generate their own version, with equipment and furnishings that have to leave before a lease ends. For estate work in depth, see our Beverly Hills estate cleanout page, and for bulky furniture see furniture removal.

Beverly Crest and Holmby Hills

Two neighborhoods we cover here are not in the City of Beverly Hills at all. Beverly Crest and Holmby Hills are part of the City of Los Angeles, which changes which pickup program applies (see below). Beverly Crest is a hillside district of 1920s quarter- to three-quarter-acre parcels, about 90 percent owner-occupied, climbing toward Mulholland Dr. The calls are brush, yard debris and remodel waste, often from properties with steep driveways on the "-crest" drives: Lindacrest, Readcrest, Gilcrest, Ridgecrest.

Holmby Hills sits among the largest estate lots in the area, zoned for up to four acres. Jobs there tend to be estate liquidations and rebuild debris from mega-mansion projects, around streets like Charing Cross Rd and S. Mapleton Dr.

Getting the truck in

The estates are gated, the roads wind, and the driveways are steep. In Trousdale, Beverly Crest and Holmby Hills, we ask for the gate code or the name of the person who will open it, whether the property is staffed, and how wide the driveway runs, then pick the truck to match. On a hillside street with no turnaround, a smaller truck and two trips beat one big one that can't get out.

In the Golden Triangle and on Wilshire, the rules are different: loading docks, elevator reservations and certificates of insurance. We arrange those before the window. For the apartments south of Wilshire, alley access is common, and the city's own alley cleanup relies on it, so we'll tell you at the quote if the truck will fit.

The city program vs. hiring us

Inside the City of Beverly Hills, Public Works picks up bulky items that don't fit in bins on request, by calling (310) 285-2467 on weekdays. Third-party listings say collection happens within one to three business days, with alley cleanup north of Santa Monica Blvd in the first and third weeks of the month and south of it in the second and fourth. Those sources also say construction material is not accepted. The city's official page was unavailable when we checked, so confirm the details with Public Works before you plan around them.

For one chair at the curb, the city is the right call. For an estate, a remodel, a gated hillside lot, or anything on a deadline, it isn't designed for the job. In Beverly Crest and Holmby Hills, LA Sanitation & Environment (LASAN) offers free curbside bulky pickup through 311 at (800) 773-2489, scheduled at least one business day ahead. We start where those programs stop.

Where Beverly Hills junk ends up

Beverly Hills has no transfer station inside the city, so general loads go to the Culver City Transfer & Recycling Station at 9255 W Jefferson Blvd, or to Southern California Disposal & Recycling on Frank St in Santa Monica. Before that stop, the pieces worth keeping come off the truck: a Trousdale dining set, a run of good lamps, the coats from a Holmby Hills closet.

Household hazardous waste is not ours to haul. The West LA S.A.F.E. Center at UCLA, 550 Charles E. Young Dr W, is the drop-off for residents who have some.

Seasons in Beverly Hills

Estate work follows sales and probate rather than the weather: a house closes, and the contents have to go. Apartment turnovers south of Wilshire cluster at month end. Beverly Crest's steep lots generate brush and yard debris that is worth clearing before the dry season. Staffed estates often have set days for deliveries and vendors, and we book around them.

A typical Beverly Hills call

A family attorney texts photos of a north-of-Wilshire house after a sale closes: a dining set, two bedrooms, a garage and a pool house. Miles prices the load the same day, and the crew comes when the gate opens and works room by room. No testimonial here: this is the shape of an estate call, to be swapped for a real job.

Beverly Hills questions

Do you serve Beverly Hills 90210, 90211 and 90212?

Yes, all three ZIPs, plus Trousdale Estates, the Flats and the Golden Triangle. We also cover Beverly Crest and Holmby Hills, which are in the City of Los Angeles. Santa Monica is about 25 minutes away.

Does the city of Beverly Hills pick up bulky items?

Public Works takes requests at (310) 285-2467 for items that don't fit in bins, and third-party listings report one to three business days, but not construction material. Check with the city for the current rules, since its page was unavailable when we looked.

Can you work inside a gated Trousdale or Holmby Hills property?

Yes. Give us the gate code or contact, whether staff are on site, and the driveway width when you text. We match the truck to the road and schedule around the gate.

Is Beverly Crest part of Beverly Hills for trash pickup?

No. Beverly Crest is in the City of Los Angeles, so LASAN's free curbside bulky pickup through 311 applies there, not Beverly Hills Public Works. We cover both.

Do you do estate cleanouts in Beverly Hills?

Yes, from single rooms to whole houses and guest houses. See our estate cleanout page for how we run them.

Where does my Beverly Hills junk go?

The rest goes to the Culver City station on W Jefferson Blvd or to Frank Street in Santa Monica, since Beverly Hills has no transfer station of its own. Hazardous waste, which we don't haul, goes to the West LA S.A.F.E. Center.
