Construction Debris Removal Malibu
We haul remodel and rebuild debris from Malibu lots, including Big Rock, Carbon Beach and Point Dume: drywall, lumber, tile, cabinets and small concrete loads. Text photos of the pile to (310) 905-5138 and Miles quotes it by truck space. We plan around PCH travel time, hillside access and your contractor's schedule.

Why construction debris removal in Malibu is its own job
A rebuild lot in Malibu is not a remodel in Brentwood with a longer drive. Three things stack up at once. First, the rebuild itself: Big Rock got the city's first post-fire certificate of occupancy in June 2026, and the city had by then issued its 100th rebuild permit, with 41 homes in construction, mostly in Big Rock. Those are dated snapshots, and an August 2026 report still described the city as largely unrebuilt, but the point for a contractor is simple: debris is leaving these lots now, in volume, and it keeps leaving for years.
Second, the road. PCH is operating at reduced capacity with a 25 mph limit through the burn zone. Our off-peak planning estimates are about 25 minutes from Santa Monica to Carbon Beach, 30 to the Civic Center and Cross Creek, and 40 to Point Dume. Add time for traffic. A round trip is a big share of a morning before anyone lifts a board.
Third, who collects what. Malibu is split at John Tyler Road between two franchise haulers, so a contractor's bin, a neighbor's trash service and the city's bulky day can each answer to a different company depending on which side the lot sits. We are not a hauler of record, so the line does not matter to us. We clear the pile your contractor does not want to babysit.
What we do not do: demolition, dumpster rental, or anything involving asbestos, lead paint chips or fire ash. We haul the rebuild-phase waste once the structure work has been done by the people licensed for it.
What we see most in Malibu rebuilds and remodels
The mix changes with the lot. On the burned lots at Big Rock, Las Flores, La Costa and Carbon Beach, the heavy cleanup has been handled by government programs, and what remains for us is the rebuild phase: framing offcuts, plywood, packaging from windows and doors, forms, plaster and drywall scrap, tile and stone from kitchens and bathrooms, and the pallets and wrap that come with every delivery. Hazardous ash and burned-structure debris were handled by those programs, which is why they are not on our list.
On lots that did not burn, the work looks like any high-end remodel with bigger numbers. Point Dume bluff houses and Malibu Colony homes send us cabinets, built-in shelving, flooring, carpet and padding, old windows and doors, and the contents of a gutted bathroom. Hillside and canyon estates add fence and deck lumber and, in modest amounts, dirt and sod from regrading. Think of the last two as the stuff left after a landscaper finishes, not an excavation project.
| Load | What it usually is in Malibu |
|---|---|
| Quarter truck | One bathroom or kitchen gut: cabinets, tile, a vanity, drywall scrap |
| Half truck | A finished garage-level cleanup after framing, or a week of subcontractor trash |
| Full truck | Flooring, drywall and trim from a whole-floor remodel |
| Multiple trips | Lot cleanup between rebuild phases, scheduled in loads to match your inspection calendar |
How we run it here: PCH, hillside lots and your schedule
Start with two photos: the pile, and the approach to the lot. Miles prices by truck space. If the driveway is long, steep or one lane, say so, because that decides how many people we send and whether we stage the load closer to the road. Beachfront homes on the PCH side often load from the shoulder or a private road, and a rebuild site may already have a K-rail or fence line we need to work around. Hillside and canyon lots can be remote, with limited turnaround and septic systems we avoid driving over.
Timing matters more here than in most places. Malibu Colony is gated, so we ask for the gate code or a name at the guard post in advance, and we aim for morning windows so the load reaches a facility before it closes. We carry the debris out by hand, load it and sweep the staging spot. If your contractor wants a pickup at the end of each rebuild phase instead of a one-off, ask Miles; it keeps the lot tidy between inspections.
One practical rule: sort before we arrive if you can. Clean wood, drywall and metal move faster and are easier to route than a mixed pile with the hazardous stuff buried underneath. If something questionable turns up, such as old paint cans, solvents or suspect insulation, we will not put it on the truck. We will tell you what it is and who handles it.
Where Malibu construction debris goes
Malibu sits in the Calabasas Landfill wasteshed, in Agoura Hills on Lost Hills Road, and organics recycling has been mandatory in the city since 2022. We could not find the landfill's public self-haul rules, so we do not tell anyone they can just drive up with a pickup bed of drywall. Clean dirt is a different category: LA County sanitation lists dirt as accepted at the Calabasas, Puente Hills and Scholl Canyon landfills, and contaminated soil needs pre-approval.
For loads that are not bound for the landfill, the nearest Westside transfer station is Southern California Disposal & Recycling at 1908 Frank St in Santa Monica. County-approved construction and demolition recycling facilities are listed by LA County Public Works, and wood, metal and clean concrete go that way where a facility will take them.
The city program's limits for construction material
Malibu's free bulky collection is a single day a year, and the household items we found on its accepted list (appliances, furniture, carpet, mattresses) do not include construction debris. One day a year cannot absorb a rebuild.
County pages also describe a Malibu Garbage Disposal District allowance that includes a small amount of on-site construction debris. We could not reconcile that with the city's one-day-a-year description, so confirm both with Universal Waste Systems at (800) 631-7016 or WM at (800) 675-1171 before you plan around either. A small remodel's leftover bag of tile may fit. A framing crew's week will not.
There is also a seasonal reason to move debris off slopes. NOAA's Climate Prediction Center is forecasting elevated odds of a strong El Niño this winter, and its outlook favors wetter-than-average conditions for Southern California from December through February (October 2026 updates). The National Weather Service says burn scars stay at elevated debris-flow risk for at least two years, and Los Angeles County states that removing debris from private property is the owner's responsibility. Stacked rebuild debris on a slope is a good thing to remove before rain is in the forecast. We are preparing for that season, not predicting how it will go.
A typical Malibu debris job
This is the kind of call we expect to feature, described as typical rather than as a customer story, and we will replace it with a real job and photos. A general contractor on a Big Rock rebuild texts three photos on a Thursday afternoon: a pile of drywall offcuts and packaging by the garage slab, a stack of cut lumber, and a pallet of tile boxes. Miles replies with a one-truck price that evening. The crew leaves Santa Monica at 7 a.m. on Friday, allows extra time for PCH, loads by hand from the street, and sweeps the staging spot so the inspector sees a tidy lot.

Debris Removal in Malibu: questions
How much does construction debris removal in Malibu cost?
We price by truck space from a photo, so there is no flat rate to quote on this page. Text photos of the debris and the approach to the lot to (310) 905-5138 and Miles replies with one clear price. Long PCH drives and hillside carries are part of that price, not a surprise add-on.
Can you haul rebuild debris from Big Rock and the PCH corridor?
Yes. We haul framing offcuts, drywall, tile, lumber, cabinets, flooring and small concrete loads from Big Rock, Las Flores, La Costa and Carbon Beach. We do not take hazardous ash or burned-structure debris, which were handled by government cleanup programs.
Does it matter which side of John Tyler Road my Malibu lot is on for debris removal?
It matters for the city's trash and bulky service, because Universal Waste Systems covers the east side and WM covers the west. It does not matter for us. We are not a franchise hauler, so we pick up construction debris on either side of the line.
Will the Malibu bulky-item day take my construction debris?
Probably not. The city's free bulky-item collection runs once a year and the accepted items we found are appliances, furniture, carpet, mattresses, electronics and refrigerators. Confirm any construction allowance with the hauler before you rely on it.
How long does Malibu construction debris pickup take to schedule?
It depends on our schedule, but a text before noon sometimes gets a next-day or sooner slot. PCH travel time and the contractor's schedule set the real window. Plan roughly 25 minutes to Carbon Beach, 30 to Cross Creek and 40 to Point Dume off-peak, and more at rush hour.
Do you take asbestos or fire ash during Malibu debris removal?
No. We do not haul asbestos, lead paint chips, fire ash or hazardous liquids. If your demolition or burn debris contains them, a licensed specialist or the government cleanup program handles that part, and we pick up the ordinary rebuild waste afterward.
Do I need to be home for debris removal in Malibu?
Not always. If the debris is outside and the gate code or a name at the guard post is set up, we can finish without you. For Malibu Colony and other gated lots, arrange access first and we will text photos of the cleared spot.
